The Northern Cape Education department says pupils at Kathu Primary will return to school on Friday.

The school was closed on Tuesday after baboons threatened the safety of teachers and about 1 800 learners.

Two of the three baboons that were spotted at the school are still on the loose.

The Provincial Environment and Conservation Spokesperson, Lesego Pule, says they have managed to dart one of the baboons.

“What I can confirm is that at the beginning of the week before the schools reopened. There were three baboons that were spotted there. We haven’t seen the other two since Tuesday afternoon and they haven’t been to the school yet. But the one that was almost a permanent resident at the school, we were able to catch and send back to the reserve this morning.”
