N Cape ANCWL chooses Ramaphosa as preferred candidate

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The ANC Women’s League’s Northern Cape PEC has unanimously voted for deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa, as their preferred candidate ahead of the party’s December elective conference.

The move goes against a decision taken by the national Women’s League, which has decided to throw its support behind Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. Northern Cape PEC members voted through a secret ballot.

Political Analyst, Ebrahim Fakir, says this is a normal democratic process.

“It’s a normal process of democracy, in the sense that people indicated their preference The ANC Women’s League indicated who they thought their preference should be. Yesterday, the ANC Women’s League in the Northern Cape province decided to deliberate on it, they changed their minds, those four things routinely happen in a democracy. You state your preference, you debate your preference, you try and persuade people, you change your mind, you vote and you take a decision.”
