Dan Malesela is Chippa United F.C new head coach.

Chippa United coach Dan Malesela says his return to the club is based on football rather than personal reasons. Malesela vowed never to return to the Port Elizabeth club, after being sacked by Chippa United owner, Chippa Mpengesi in 2018.

He returns for his fourth spell with the club and will be in charge when the Chilli Boys take on Supersport United in a DStv Premiership match in Pretoria on Wednesday.

Malesela, who was fired by his former club, TS Galaxy last month, says it took him a couple of days to decide on whether to accept the Chippa United offer or not.

“Obviously I had to consult, speak to my manager, my wife, and family to ask if it is ok. I was always keen; I don’t want to worry about too many things in the past. History is something that can bring back tears.”

Malesela led  Chippa United to a sixth position finish in the 2015/2016 season. He was also in charge when the team made it to the Nedbank Cup semi-final in 2017.

Club chairperson Siviwe Mpengesi welcomed Malesela back. “We are very excited to have ‘Dan Dance’ back to our club structures. He has always been well-liked by our different supporters’ branches and we did not hesitate to link him back with the Chilli Boys when that opportunity presented itself.”
