The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Faith Muthambi, says she is saddened by the death of the 22 boys at initiation schools in the Eastern Cape during the current summer initiation season.

All the boys died because of dehydration.

Muthambi has expressed her heartfelt condolences to the families. She says they are going to try and find long term solutions to the problem.

“We are going to call the National House of Traditional Leaders, including the South African Congress of Traditional leaders so that we find a long-lasting solution. We cannot be reactive again. I think there has to be a solution to this problem.”
