The Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court in the north of Durban has heard that the indictment of a soldier, who allegedly went on a shooting spree as he was trying to track down his girlfriend, is expected to be finalised in early 2018.

The State alleges that Thembinkosi Ngcobo deserted the Northern Cape army base earlier this year, armed with an R4-assault rifle.

He travelled to Durban to find his girlfriend who he believed was cheating on him. His girlfriend’s sister, Nokwanda Mbambo, was shot dead at the family home north of Durban.

Ngcobo is currently facing charges of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping and robbery.

On Tuesday, the case was adjourned to January 6, 2018 for the KwaZulu-Natal director of public prosecutions to finalise the indictment.
