Umkhanyakude municipality in the far northern KwaZulu-Natal has scooped a coveted award for “Best Infrastructure Programme” during the Kamoso Awards for Excellence hosted by the Provincial Department of Human Settlements and Public Works at Umhlanga near Durban.
Mayor Solomon Mkhombo says they were recognised for their continued infrastructural programmes aimed at exposing the youth to job opportunities while improving the lives of general citizens.
Mkhombo says their exceptional performance has been put on the world map as a model for other municipalities.
“We have been given an award by the district municipality in the sector of infrastructure. We have been selected because we have done very well in terms of the implementation of the infrastructure project that created opportunities and exposed the youth to work related environment.”
