Zimbabwean president Emmerson Mnangagwa has responded to his predecessor, Robert Mugabe who on Thursday called for dialogue between the two leaders.
Speaking to the SABC, Mugabe said he’s aggrieved that he had to resign after mounting pressure for him to do so last year.
President Mnangagwa says Mugabe is free to express his view as as ordinary citizen.
Mugabe who clearly hasn’t accepted his stepping down, has described the events of November as a coup, but the Zimbabwean government has dismissed this, saying the former veteran leader tendered his resignation in terms of Section 96, Subsection 1 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.
Mnangagwa says currently the Zimbabwean government is focussing on rebuilding the country and preparing for what he called free, fair and credible elections that are likely to be held later this year.
Mnangagwa will on Saturday receive South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, but it is not clear whether this issue will be discussed.
