Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe could respond on Friday to his wife Grace Mugabe’s request that he name his preferred successor.

She was speaking at a meeting of the ZANU-PF Women’s League, which she heads, in Harare. She is regarded as a possible contender to take over from her husband.

The 93-year-old veteran leader has been visiting Singapore more often in recent months for medical treatment, but he has not shown any signs of slowing down.

Mugabe will be speaking at his home town of Chinhoyi on Friday and observers believe he could respond to his wife’s request.
