MTN 8 semi finals to be tough

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The fate of the MTN 8 semi-finalists will be decided this weekend. None of the last four teams is in a commanding position heading into the second leg. They all have a near equal opportunity to confirm their place in the final.

Supersport United were favourites ahead of the first leg against Kaizer Chiefs. However, Matsatsantsa a Pitori, were matched in that encounter. In fact Chiefs have a slight upper hand going into the return leg – after scoring two away goals despite the match ending in a stalemate.

SuperSport are aware that those goals could have been avoided and they now find themselves on the back foot.

“The concern is we know the phases that we conceded the goals it’s a critical phases we know that and we that we are not supposed to concede goals during those periods and we obviously lacked concentration at that time,” said SuperSport United player, Reneilwe Letsholonyane.

Chiefs will be looking to capitalise on the combination of Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat. Although they have two away goals, they are vulnerable in defence.

“With Khama we know each other so we know the way we play upfront even with Zuma we know the style of Zuma so it’s better when we got some player they got talent upfront even Ntshangase there he is a good passer, so it’s good for us when he is upfront to play with us,” said Kaizer Chiefs player Leonardo Castro.

With Mamelodi Sundowns out of the CAF Champions League – domestic competitions will now take priority. Cape Town City have a 1-0 aggregate after the first leg semi-final and although it’s not a big margin, it remains a daunting task for Pitso Mosimane’s brigade.

“You could see also they are also resting players because Sunday’s game for them is more important we are also looking at those things to say that they are taking the game seriously and they want to go to the finals and Benni would want to win his cup why not and he deserves it to be honest. But we have to up our game, we are professionals. We know that we are not feeling well after the champions league but we should turn that into a positive to say we have another chance,” says Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane.

The Chiefs – Supersport match will be played at the FNB Stadium on Saturday evening, while Sundowns will host City at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.
