Reading Time: 2 minutes

Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa will on Friday pay tribute to one of South Africa’s most celebrated sculptors, poet and author, Professor Pitika Ntuli.

The event will be hosted as part of the inaugural “Van Toeka Af Living Legends Recognition Series”.

It seeks to celebrate Ntuli for his immeasurable contribution to the local and global creative and cultural landscape.

The Van Toeka Af Living Legends Recognition Series is the department’s initiative to recognise living legends in the creative and cultural sector.

The aim is to impart knowledge about what it takes to be an African creative, a cultural champion and a world class artist.

Award

Last year, Ntuli was awarded the Global Fine Art people’s choice award.

Ntuli’s “Azibuyele Emasisweni (Return to the Source) is an online exhibition of bone sculptures, and it won the “YOU-2” award which is one of two People’s choice awards of the 7th annual Global Fine Art Awards.

There were 116 nominees which included exhibitions from some of the most established art galleries and Museums in the world.

In the video below, Ntuli speaks about winning the award:
