African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) member Jackson Mthembu has warned the Moses Mabhida region in KwaZulu-Natal against holding a regional conference, saying there are still challenges such as the recent murder of party member Musawenkosi Mchunu.

Mthembu was speaking at the funeral service of Mchunu who was gunned down at his home at Edendale outside Pietermaritzburg last week.

Other senior members of the ANC and the South African Communist Party (SACP) including Senzo Mchunu, Bheki Cele, Bathabile Dlamini and Blade Nzimande also attended the service.

Mthembu says the regional conference should be put on hold until members’ concerns are all attended to.
