Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng Premier Candidate Solly Msimanga has laid criminal charges against the African National Congress (ANC) for allegedly inciting violence in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg.
Last week, Alexandra residents took to the streets protesting over land grabs, the mushrooming of illegal structures as well as service delivery.
Msimanga says ANC members fueled the protests adding that it has nothing to do with service delivery, but politicking. He says the ANC is responsible for inciting violence in the area in order to influence the outcome of the general elections on 8 May.
The ANC is running scared of losing the elections on 8 May & will stop at nothing to hang on to power in Gauteng.
If they are serious about this issue, they will join us for a public meeting in Alex so they can answer for their time in office. #AlexTotalShutDown pic.twitter.com/K5YSgSHR65

Msimanga adds that this was done by coordinating plans with local affiliates on the ground to embark on violent protest actions.
He says he has evidence in the form of WhatsApp messages between organisers, where activities aimed against Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba were coordinated.
We’ve seen a WhatsApp exchange where one of the organisers infers that their actions are being supported by the ANC.
This further proves that the @GautengANC is a party of thugs, not leaders.#AlexTotalShutDown pic.twitter.com/rUtck1uUx3

Msimanga says it is clear from the messages that the Alex protests were driven by ANC members. He has also labelled the ruling party, a party of thugs.
