Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng premier candidate, Solly Msimanga, says he aims to stay away from becoming embroiled in tender irregularities, amid regular occurrences of bribery among government officials.

This follows widespread allegations provided to the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture of corruption and financial mismanagement at government level and state owned enterprises.

Msimanga resigned in January as the Mayor of Tshwane, to pursue his Gauteng premier candidacy ahead of the May elections.

He says he will investigate any irregularities brought to his attention.

“What you normally do get is people saying take care of me and I will take care of you, and it happens on a regular basis, it’s almost a daily thing. My answer is always standard. There is a process to be followed, go and follow it. If you are a suitable bidder, you will get the job.”

He adds: “My responsibility is to say to the senior managers of the city, this is what we need to do this year, go and make sure that it happens. If something is wrong, my responsibility is to come back and say where did we go wrong. If a whistle-blower says to me, we think there has been some money stolen, it is my responsibility to investigate that. But over and above that you cannot get yourself involved.”
