Mpumalanga police have called on members of the public to use fireworks responsibly when ushering in the New Year.

Provincial police spokesperson Leonard Hlathi says police will be visible in all residential areas to enforce the by-laws.

Hlathi has also requested parents not to allow children to use fireworks, because they could pose a danger to other people.

“There are demarcated areas where the municipality would request their communities to go and use the fireworks at those areas. Such by- laws must adhere to by the community-again the normal problem we have is the issue of parents allowing children to use fireworks and that is uncalled for.”
