Currently, the country is on level four of the lockdown.

Mpumalanga Health MEC Sasekani Manzini says they have screened more than one-million people so far.

The province has recorded 57 coronavirus cases with the Nkomazi Municipality leading with 20 cases.

She says the door-to-door screening campaign is running smoothly.

Manzini says her department has ensured that health and community health care workers are protected from contracting the virus.

“As Mpumalanga province, we can confirm that we are currently having 57 confirmed cases. In terms of our three districts, Ehlanzeni is at 29, Gert Sibande at 20 and Nkangala at 8.”

“But we can further indicate that we are observing two municipalities which is our epic centre. Pixley Ka Isaka Seme which has got 15 cases and your Nkomazi which is 20 cases. We can also indicate that we are continuing with our screening and testing in the province and we can say that currently we have screened one million seven hundred and twenty six people.”

Meanwhile, the NICD says the surge in confirmed cases is due to high numbers of testing in the country.

Earlier this week, President Cyril Ramaphosa warned that the worst is yet to come.

He has once again urged South Africans to practice social distancing and wash their hands at all times.

Government has announced that people who don’t wear face mask when in public will be fined.

Currently, the country is on level four of the lockdown.
