Mpumalanga police are hunting for those behind an increasing number of Cash-in-Transit heists in the province.

Two cash-in-transit vehicles were attacked this week alone and a substantial amount of money stolen.

One attack was at KwaMhlushwa near Malelane and the other at Zwelisha outside Mbombela.

Provincial police spokesperson Mtsholi Bhembe says the attacks were similar.

He says: “They used almost the same modus operandi. More than 10 men with heavy assault rifles firing at the vehicles and instructing the personnel to lie down, blasting the safe open and helping themselves to cash.”

“As I am speaking to you right now there was also an attempt along the White River Sabie road but fortunately they did not manage to take any money.”

“They did force the vehicle to stop tried to blast it and somehow they failed and had to abandoned their plans,” says Bhembe.
