The Magistrate Court in Bushbuckridge, in Mpumalanga, has postponed a case against Silence Tibane who is accused of killing the mother of his child. The 25-year-old man was arrested on Friday after the discovery of the lifeless body of Nomsa Sambo who was dumped next to Chayaza High School.
It is reported that the two were no longer in a relationship.
Community members chanted struggle songs waving placards outside court. They are opposed to the suspect getting bail.  It is reported that the accused was arrested after being found with items belonging to the victim and his clothes were also found with bloodstains.

A few days before the incident, the victim reportedly obtained a protection order against the suspect. A community member, Siboniso Mkhonto says the incident has left the community traumatised.

“We are heartbroken especially as men, we feel embarrassed, because of the case we have attended her, we are down we are feeling  sympathy to women of our community at large.”

Lindiwe Ntimane, a community member, says women are under siege in that community.

“What happened here is traumatic to us as women, we are not safe from our husbands, we love them but at the same time they are our enemies.”

According to the deceased’s family, Sambo was raped and her throat slit. The victim’s grandfather, Jabulani Mnisi says the family will not rest until justice is served.

“It seems the law is taking its course since they have reminded for the 23rd I think the law will do justice for us as a family because we want him to rot in jail”

The suspect is expected to apply for bail on the 23rd of February. The deceased will be laid to rest on Tuesday.
