The DA’s Mpho Phalatse has outlined her reasons for wanting to return as the Mayor of the City of Johannesburg.
Phalatse was ousted through a motion of no confidence in January and was replaced with Al Jama-ah politician, Thapelo Amad.
Amad has now resigned as Mayor, prior to facing a motion of no confidence.
There’s been public outcry over Amad’s alleged incompetence and inability to lead the city.
A new Mayor is expected to be elected on May 2 at a special council sitting.
Phalatse says rolling blackouts are having a severe negative impact on the country’s economic hub.
“People are sick and tired of the instability. What is best? Is it best to return a government that was trying to rebuild and repair the city and was ousted for nefarious reasons? We will continue to reach out to like-minded parties who are interested in unseating the ANC and rebuilding our country. The biggest impact we made was the headway on offsetting load shedding. We announced a R401 million plan to offset stages of load shedding. For a city like JHB, the country’s economic hub, to be without power is a nightmare.”
Phalatse elaborates in the video below:
