Chippa United Chairman Siviwe “Chippa” Mpengesi is relieved after the Chilli Boyz ensured that they remain in top-flight football following a 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs; 1-0 courtesy of a Rhulani Manzini goal in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon.

The Chilli Boyz flirted with relegation for most of the season after chopping and changing their coaches.

The Port Elizabeth-based club started the season with current TS Galaxy coach Dan Malesela, who was then fired three matches into the past term.

Mpengesi replaced Malesela with Eric Tinkler who was also dismissed and substituted by Joel Masutha who was also replaced by the current coach Clinton Larsen. Larsen guided the Chilli Boyz to safety.

The Chillli Boyz were 15th on the Absa Premiership table before the second last match of the season. They then moved up to 13th spot following their 3-1 away win over Polokwane City.

Mpengesi reckons that the win over Rise and Shine was a turning point for the Chilli Boyz.

Mpengesi alludes that it has not been an easy journey for the Chilli Boyz as they are going to celebrate 10 years in existence next season.
