A memorial service will be held for Mozambique’s late opposition leader, Alfonso Dhlakama, in Beira on Wednesday.

He will be laid to rest in his home village of Mangunde, 200 kilometres from Beira, on Thursday.

Dhlakama died last week at the age of 65 after being in poor health with diabetes.

He was the leader of the Renamo movement (Mozambique National Resistance Movement) , which fought the Frelimo (Mozambique Liberation Front) government in the Mozambican Civil War from 1976 to 1992 and after the peace agreement, became the opposition party.
