Motorists urged to be vigilant during holidays

Newly appointed national Police Commissioner General Kehla Sitole has described as a success, the road blocks that were staged in Mpumalanga province.

In the road block staged on the N4 toll route that was attended by Commissioner Sitole a women was arrested for being in possession of marijuana.

The festive season is usually characterised by excitement, accidents and criminal activities.

Traffic authorities and the police try to reduce all such incidents by staging road blocks where they check the road worthiness of vehicles and try to prevent people from travelling with illegal goods and drugs.

The Commissioner says they have increased the number of police officers deployed in crime hot spot areas in the country.

“The operation that you see here in Mpumalanga is part and parcel of our new turn around vision, where we stem the authority of the State, and in stamping the authority of the State.”

General Sitole says a number of road blocks have been staged on all the busy roads countrywide. He says police are conducting stop and search operations.

“In all the road blocks that I have visited, we have discovered that we have a huge rate of successes, which shows me that our police members are dedicated, I have also interacted with the community, in the same road blocks, I think they were very impressed.”
