The Gauteng traffic office has called on motorists to reduce their speed while driving due to inclement weather in the province.

Fourteen crashes have been reported on the provinces roads on Saturday morning.

The South African Weather Services (SAWS) says the province will experience a significant drop in temperatures, averaging around 20 degrees Celcius, with constant wet conditions.

Gauteng traffic police spokesperson Busaphi Nxumalo says, “A message from Gauteng traffic police is that it is raining in the province since this morning. So, people must reduce their speed, they must not drive in such an excessive speed and also wipers and road worthiness of vehicles – because most people their vehicles are not road worthy – their wipers are not working, their tyres are worn, most of those vehicles just lost control. So they must just reduce their speed and make sure their vehicles are road-worthy.”
