Motlanthe withdraws from contesting deputy president position

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe has withdrawn from contesting the position of deputy president at the ANC’s elective conference in Mangaung. This leaves Cyril Ramaphosa, Matthews Phosa and Tokyo Sexwale vying for the position. Baleka Mbete has also withdrawn. Meanwhile, Ace Magashule has withdrawn his candidature for the position of National Chairperson, supporting Baleka Mbete. She will be up against Thandi Modise for the position. The other person to have withdrawn from contesting this position is Thenjiwe Mtintso. Gwede Mantashe will contest the position of secretary general, along with Fikile Mbalula. Jessie Duarte was nominated unopposed for the position of deputy secretary general.
