Mosimane unhappy with referee Abongile Tom

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is unhappy with referee Abongile Tom after his team played to a goalless draw with Bidvest Wits in a league match in Pretoria on Tuesday night.

Both Sundowns and Wits dropped two crucial points in a title race with Kaizer Chiefs still sitting on top,  three points clear. Mosimane says Tom should have sent off Wits captain Thulani Hlatswayo.

Tom is the current PSL referee of the year but this season he has not been at his best. He was also involved in the infamous match between Cape Town City and Kaizer Chiefs when he failed to send off Mpho Makola for shoving him.

Mosimane says the young referees are too strict. He is also not concerned that the league might charge him for criticising the match official.

Mosimane also feels that many local referees are not brave enough to take bold decisions. Tom sent off Wits defender Buhle Mkhwanazi in the second half. His sentiments were also echoed by the former referee Ace Ngcobo.

The Brazilians will be disappointed that they failed to collect maximum points to put pressure on log leaders Chiefs. But Mosimane blamed Tom for the draw. He added that Tom should not be the referee of the year this season.

Sundowns players Wayne Arendse and Themba Zwane were also shown yellow cards. Zwane will miss the league match against Orlando Pirates next week Wednesday. Mosimane is clueless about why Zwane was booked. – Report by Vincent Sitsula
