Moroe remains under suspension: CSA board

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Cricket South Africa (CSA) board says Thabang Moroe remains suspended as CEO, pending the outcome of an inquiry.

He was initially suspended in December, pending an investigation into management practices at CSA. However, he tried to return to work on Thursday, saying the six months allocated to the investigation had lapsed.

This followed news that Standard Bank will not renew its agreement with CSA as the title sponsor of the South African National Men’s Cricket Team when it concludes on 30 April 2020.

Moroe arrived at CSA offices but was denied entry which was in large part due to the coronavirus regulations, whereby all CSA staff are working remotely.

His lawyer Michael Bill says he will do so again on Friday, as the suspension has lapsed, even though the investigation is not yet complete. Jacques Faul has been acting as CEO since the suspension, and remains in place for now.

The CSA board met on Thursday night, and their reading is that the suspension remains in place until the conclusion of the investigation. They say the suspension did not have a time limit, despite an undertaking that it would be complete within 6 month. It is expecting the report imminently.
