ANC clarifies position on Morocco ahead of Zuma meeting King of Morocco

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The African National Congress (ANC) International Relations Commission says President Jacob Zuma’s meeting with the King of Morocco is not necessarily contradicting ANC policy as government has to meet all countries.

However, the party still believes Morocco should not have been re-admitted to the African Union.

The commission says ANC support for the self determination of the people of Western Sahara and Palestine has not changed.

The commission met ahead of the December National Conference to review its policies.

Commission member Dipuo Letsatsi says ANC position on most international relations policies remains the same.

“We are still committed to the Palestinian and our position has not changed in relation to the president meeting with Morocco …  government meets with everyone including the Morocco King. When there was debates about re-admission of Morocco we said we did not support it until the issue of Western Sahara is resolved, but votes were not on our side. But we will still continue lobbying AU members until the issue is resolved.”
