The City of Johannesburg says it remains dedicated to transparency and accountability in its effort to improve delivery of basic services such as water and sanitation.

This week, the City’s mayor Dada Morero led executives to appear before Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA).

They provided comprehensive accounts of the City’s governance, financial management, audit outcomes and service delivery performance.

During the session, the City addressed concerns related to the 2024-2025 audit outcome including financial sustainability.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the City reaffirmed its acceptance of the Auditor-General’s findings and confirmed a shift in focus from audit remediation to the implementation of corrective actions that address root causes.

The City has outlined a targeted turnaround programme prioritising governance, financial sustainability, and service delivery improvement. It also announced key interventions, including strengthening audit readiness through enhanced reconciliations, debtor verification, and stricter expenditure controls.
