Mpumalanga will extend the deployment of traffic officers on its roads following Friday night’s horrific multi-vehicle crash on the N4 toll route between Mbombela and Malelane, which claimed at least 14 lives.

Nine people were seriously injured in the collision involving two trucks, a minibus taxi and a sedan.

Mpumalanga Community Safety and Security MEC, Pat Ngomane says: “The minibus was coming from Nelspruit to Malelane and the polo was also going to Malalane. The two trucks were going towards Nelspruit. According to the information we are getting the truck and 22 seater collided head on.”

“From November 1, we are going to make sure that traffic officers are visible 24 hours a day.”

Ngomane says they are investigating the cause of the crash.
