More than a 1000 delegates expected at WEF on Africa

SAGovernment plans to lead discussions on radical economic transformation and inclusive growth when the country hosts the World Economic Forum on Africa in Durban next week.

President Jacob Zuma will attend the three-day summit starting from next Wednesday.

More than 1000 participants including some African presidents will attend the gathering.

Deputy Finance Minister Sfiso Buthelezi says the country’s participation is in line with its policy of inclusive growth.

Government plans to use the event to promote the country as an investment destination.

South Africa views the meeting as an opportunity to ensure that addressing inequality remains on top of the agenda.

Buthelezi has maintained that radical economic transformation and inclusive growth mean the same thing.

However, Treasury has taken a decision to use inclusive growth.

Some of the heads of state expected to attend the summit include the Presidents of Namibia, Mozambique, Uganda ,Senegal and Mauritius.

Director for Africa at the World Economic Forum, Elsie Kanza, has raised concerns about persistent inequalities in South Africa and many parts of Africa.

Economic cluster ministers including Finance, Economic Development and Trade and Industry will accompany the President.
