More than 60 000 healthcare workers vaccinated in SA so far

The country expects the next batch of Johnson and Johnson vaccines on Saturday morning.

The Health Department has reported 1 654 new cases of coronavirus, taking the number of total infections to 1 510 778.

There have been a further 117 COVID-19-related deaths in the country, bringing the national death toll to 49 784 deaths.

Recoveries now stand at 1 426 417, representing a recovery rate of 94%.

The number of vaccines that have been administered to healthcare workers now stands at 63 648.

The country expects the next batch of Johnson and Johnson vaccines on Saturday morning.

Latest SA stats:

South Africa’s stats come amid the global cumulative COVID-19 cases exceeding 112.2 million, with the total related fatalities surpassing 2.49 million, according to data released by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on Thursday.

The global case count reached 112 209 815 with a total of 2 490 776 deaths worldwide, the WHO data showed.
