Moral degeneration biggest threat to South Africa

Reading Time: < 1 minute

An activist for moral regeneration Chris Mathebula says South Africans have come to a point whereby they no longer behave like human beings and have lost their morals.

This comes as media reports on high levels of corruption, violence and crime are sparking debates on societal moral decay in the country.

Recent sexual allegations involving a forensic investigator who was working on the case of previously violated learners at a school in Soweto, sent shock waves this week.

Philosophers say moral degeneration is the biggest threat to the future of the country.

“We don’t enforce law in this country, we are very soft and we don’t have proper role models. We have taken people who were not even supposed to go into leadership and we celebrated them and now everyone thinks they can do whatever they want in South Africa,” says Mathebula.

Liezl Groenewald from The Ethics Institute says people look up to government and if we put good leadership in power then that might bring back morals in the country.
