Monyane gives Ramaphosa ultimatum on settlement

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Suspended SARS Commissioner Tom Moyane has given President Cyril Ramaphosa until noon on Tuesday to reconsider paying him a multi-million-rand settlement to walk away from his position or be prepared for legal action.

Ramaphosa suspended Moyane last month after he was accused of allowing his former deputy Jonas Makwakwa to break the law.

This was amid claims that Moyane also let former president Jacob Zuma not file his tax return.

Moyane’s ultimatum is contained in his lawyer’s letter.

Journalist Karyn Maughan has been writing extensively about the story…

“For the president to come out to make a statement about integrity in circumstances where there have been so many reports… Moyane denying that there’s any issue with his integrity but particularly about his relationship with the Gupta family. I think it will be quite difficult for the president or his lawyers to agree to that statement being made.”
