Molopyane unpacks ANC, Cosatu alliance

Labour analyst Mamokgethi Molopyane sees the alliance between Cosatu and the ANC as unsteady, though still significant.

This follows the meeting between President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Cosatu’s Central Executive Committee on Tuesday.

The meeting was aimed at strengthening relations that had deteriorated before the ANC elective conference in December.

The trade union, a strong backer of Ramaphosa towards the Elective Conference, has voiced its disagreements with some of the decisions the president has endorsed since then.

“It’s become clear now in President Ramaphosa attending Cosatu’s CEC, which hasn’t been done in a while by an ANC president, is a way of saying let us come together, let us engage each other on issues that have somehow made you unhappy.”
