Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa says government needs to strengthen measures to curb corporate corruption and fraud.

Molewa said this after receiving the French Legion of Honour in Pretoria over the weekend.

The award was in honour of her work in promoting the 2015 Paris Climate Change Accord in South Africa.

New climate change legislation is in the pipeline in South Africa.

However, French arms company Thales subsidiary in South Africa is facing charges of arms deal corruption and fraud for their role in the arms deal along with former President Jacob Zuma.

Minister Molewa says whilst the public sector has been often cited for corruption, the private sector should also be severely punished for similar misdeeds.

“The institutions have been undermined by human greed. So we need to ensure that we promote ethical leadership and fight corruption. We even mean the private sector because there is a corruptor and corruptee.  So we need to work together to curb that problem,” says Molewa.
