Sandile Mantsoe is on trial for allegedly assaulting and killing his girlfriend Karabo Mokoena in April last year.

The trial of murder accused Sandile Mantsoe is expected to continue on Tuesday morning in the Johannesburg High Court.

The 27-year-old is on trial for allegedly assaulting and killing his girlfriend Karabo Mokoena in April last year, as well as obstructing the ends of justice.

Mokoena’s body was discovered in an open veld in Lyndhurst, Johannesburg, in April last year.

Mantsoe says Mokoena committed suicide and continues to reaffirm his innocence.

Mokoena’s younger sister is expected next on the witness stand.

On Monday, the state called its first witness Stephani Leon to the stand and she testified of how she tried convincing Mokoena to leave Mantsoe.

This after Mokoena sent her pictures of her battered face on whatsapp after allegedly being beaten up by Mantsoe during an argument.

The pictures showed her blood-red eye and bruises on her neck.

Leon told the court that she questioned why Mokoena was still with Mantsoe as such actions showed he didn’t care about her.
