Zimbabwe’s governing Zanu-PF party has confirmed that Emmerson Mnangagwa will be sworn in as interim President on Wednesday afternoon after Robert Mugabe stepped down on Tuesday.

Mugabe fired Mnangagwa earlier this month.

Mnangagwa’s dismissal on November 6 triggered a military take-over.

On Wednesday, Zimbabweans continued to celebrate the fall of a President who liberated the country but at the same time ran it to the ground.

The country was expected to stage a massive shutdown on Wednesday, but that is now off the cards.

South Africans also reacted to Mugabe’s resignation.

“I think this is a very joyous day in Zimbabwe’s history. I mean we all have been watching the news with anticipation for Mugabe’s resignation and it has finally come,” says one SA resident.
