Mnangagwa calls for unity in Zimbabwe

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has again called for unity after describing Saturday’s blast at a political rally as the sixth attempt on his life.

Mnangagwa travelled to South Africa in August last year for emergency surgery after suffering reported food poisoning.

On Saturday, there was an explosion at the rally in Bulawayo which he said was only inches away from him.

At least 41 people were injured, but the President escaped unharmed.

Mnangagwa has called on the people not to be discouraged from their pursuit of peace by such attacks.

There’s no indication yet of who carried out the attack and nobody has claimed responsibility.

Zimbabwe police have not issued any statement so far.
