The Public Protector Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane, has welcomed the Chief Justice Raymond Zondo’s statement on investigating a controversial SMS on a pending constitutional matter relating to her fate.

Mkhwebane says she might also lay criminal charges against the sender of the questionable message.

She briefed the media on Friday on the 10 investigative reports she released.

Ismael Abramje allegedly sent the text message to a member of the legal council for Parliament, Andrew Breitenbach.

Abramjee allegedly claimed that the Constitutional Court would dismiss Mkhwebane’s case.

The SMS led to a postponement of Mkhwebane’s case.

In the video below, Public Protector releases number of investigation reports:

On Tuesday Mkhwebane brought an application to prevent Parliament from starting the impeachment process to remove her.

Both President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Speaker of the National Assembly Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula are the respondents in the court case.

Mkhwebane wants the court to prevent Ramaphosa from suspending her, pending the envisaged court outcome following her decision to challenge the impeachment process.

The Public Protector also wants the National Assembly not to proceed with the process to remove her while she is still challenging the matter in court.

If the majority of National Assembly members vote to remove her, she will be the first Public Protector to be removed in this manner.
