Mkhwebane “extra cautious and afraid of the courts”

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane says the Constitutional Court’s decision to uphold a punishing cost order against her, will make her extra cautious and afraid of the courts.

In a majority judgement, the land’s highest court dismissed her petition for appeal, finding that the cost order from the High Court in Pretoria was justified.

The cost order had to do with remedial action Mkhwebane sought in respect of the so-called lifeboat agreement between the Reserve Bank and Bankorp.

Mkhwebane can’t appeal the Constitutional Court judgment against her. She says she will study the judgment before she gives a comprehensive reaction.

The Public Protector maintains that she acted in good faith during her investigation and disagrees with the judgment that she lied under oath.
