Mkhize to hold a special candlelight ceremony to honour nurses

As the World commemorates International Nurses Day, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize will hold a special candlelight ceremony at the King Edward hospital in Durban on Tuesday.

The day commemorates the dedication and contribution of nurses around the world.

This year, the focus will also be on the brave nurses treating COVID-19 patients on the frontlines.

International Nurses Day this year will take on a sobering tone in recognition of those who have tested positive for the coronavirus.

2020  has been designated as the year of the nurse and the midwife by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in recognition of the contribution nurses make, and the risks associated with nursing shortages.

MECs for Health together with a small group of nurses across all nine provinces will hold a special candlelight ceremony and read the nurses pledge.
