South Africa records 4 456 new cases on Tuesday, bringing the cumulative total confirmed number to 521 318. The Health Department also announces 345 new COVID-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours, rising SA’s total number of deaths to 8 884.
The number of recoveries currently stands at 363 751 which translates to a recovery rate of 69.8%.

First coronavirus case in SA
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize is expected to brief the media on Wednesday on the latest development on coronavirus in South Africa.
Wednesday 5 August will also be exactly five months since the first coronavirus case was reported in South Africa.
