The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) says it will intensify its roadblock operations on Gauteng roads for the rest of the festive season. This comes as at least 521 drivers were arrested over this long weekend for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Since the beginning of December, over 1200 motorists have been arrested for drunk driving. JMPD spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar has this strong message for motorists ahead of the News Year’s Day.
“There will be visibility, this visibility will be maintained throughout the festive season and we are going to have even more operations as people return to Gauteng towards the first and second week of January so less drinking and driving, stick to the speed limit, do not drive at extremely high speeds and do not be reckless and I’m sure we’ll be able to register fewer road deaths.”
