Miya to represent SA in World Chess Championships in China

Eight years-old Minentle Miya from Khutsong on Gauteng’s West Rest, will represent South Africa in the 2019 World Cadet U-8, U-10 and U-12 Chess Championships to be held in the city of Weifang, Shandong, China late this month.

The event will also be spread in various venues in Qilu Wine Culture Creative Industry Park, Anqiu International Sports and Leisure Town.

The tournament will get underway on the 20th of August till the 2nd of September. Miya’s coach Israel Tshabadirha says that they are excited about representing the country.

The chess wonder kid, Miya qualified for the world Championships when she emerged victorious in South African Junior Closed Championships held in Benoni, March 2019.

Tshabadirha says they are looking forward to the tournament.

Tshabadirha says that he will give Miya a well deserve break from local competitions to fully focus on these Championships.
