Relief organisation, Gift of the Givers is providing R15 million worth of assistance to farmers around Sutherland in the Northern Cape.

Organisation Founder, Imitiaz Sooliman says 200 bales of fodder for starving animals donated by farmers in the North West province arrived on Friday.

Sooliman says they have also brought in a hydrologist who helped locate groundwater in drought-stricken Beaufort West earlier this year.

“They’ve had 200 boreholes which have dried up. The water was dropping substantially because of the drought. We are now looking at re-activating new boreholes in the region on Monday morning. Two of our drills will go there, our Hydrologist and our drilling personnel will also go.”

“Monday evening, we will be sending in 40 000 litres of diesel because the drills use a lot of diesel, and hopefully on Tuesday morning we will start looking for boreholes to try to save the region,” says Sooliman.
