Mihlali Mayambela making waves in Israel as big brother watches on

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Mihlali Mayambela has started a new adventure in Israel this year, after joining Bnei Yehuda from Portuguese club SC Farense last month.

The 23-year Cape Town-born attacking midfielder has started five games already for his new club, scoring once, and says he was immediately made to feel at home at the club. Mayambela left South Africa as a teenager to join Djurgardens in Sweden, and while there also had loan spells at Degerfors and Brage. He joined Farense two years ago, making Yehuda his fifth club since leaving South Africa.

Mayambela says that he has been impressed by the Israeli league so far, and he is excited to potentially play in European competitions with the club.

He follows in the footsteps of Dino Ndlovu who also played for the club, while he says that Tsepo Masilela also left his mark in Israel, when he played for Maccabi Haifa.

It has also been a special time for older brother Mark, who after leaving Cape Town City during the last transfer window, has been in Israel to watch his brother, seeing him play live for the first time overseas.

The proud older brother says Mihlali also left a good impression at his past club too, and he is very proud of what his younger sibling is doing.

The younger brother says that having Mark around in Israel has been incredibly special, as they are as close as two brothers can be.

The former City’s player (Mayambela senior) says that visiting Israel has also been a personal pilgrimage for himself, as his faith is very important to him, and Israel is a very holy place.
