Michael Sachs joins Gauteng Health

Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has confirmed that former Deputy Head of Budget at National Treasury, Michael Sachs will be joining the Gauteng Health department with effect from Friday.

Sachs will be part of a five-member, high-level task team that has been appointed to co-ordinate a recovery plan for the provincial health department. The department is facing a number of challenges, including owing service providers billions of rand and the Life Esidimeni scandal.

Minister Motsoaledi briefed the media along with Gauteng Premier David Makhura and Health MEC Gwen Ramokgopa Sunday afternoon on these interventions.

Motsoaledi says the task team, led by Wits orthopaedics professor Mkhululi Lukhele and including Sachs will focus on the following areas:

“Sachs and Lukhele will be focusing on hman resources procurement systems and in financial management, to clean up and align the whole departmental financial system. It will be maintenance of equipment and refurbishment of infrastructure. And the health service delivery system and clinical governance and also review the whole healthcare delivery systems,” says Motsoaledi.
