Cable theft halts Cape Town Metrorail services

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Metrorail has suspended all central train line services, between Chris Hani, Kapteinsklip and Bishop Lavis in Cape Town.

Metrorail says the stations on these lines will be closed and no tickets will be on sale until further notice.

Commuters are advised to find alternative transport.

Metrorail spokesperson Riana Scott says sustained vandalism, cable theft and destruction of critical infrastructure have forced them to suspend services on the central line.

“Our commuters in the area will know that now for months they have been suffering from very poor service levels and it’s only due to vandalism in the area. It continues unabated and law enforcement authorities have not had much success in apprehending the criminals. So we’ve really come to a point where we’ve had to suspend services. We’ve had no alternative,” says Scott.
