Metrorail suspends services in Cape Town following vandalism

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Metrorail says its central line services will remain suspended in Cape Town on Monday afternoon due to vandalism of critical infrastructure.  Train services between Chris Hani, Kapteinsklip and Bishop Lavis have been affected and thousands of commuters stranded.

A R25000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.

Metrorail says buses have been made available for passengers with monthly and weekly train tickets. Those who purchase daily tickets have been requested to use alternative transport.

It is unclear when normal train operations will resume at this stage but Metrorail says repair work is being done on the affected lines.

A call has been made to police and law enforcement agencies to protect damaged infrastructure.
