Metrorail says buses have been made available for passengers with monthly and weekly train tickets.

Metrorail says it fears fresh attacks on its infrastructure and has deployed technical teams to carry out repairs on its central line in Cape Town under armed escort.

Train services to the main line have been suspended indefinitely due to acts of vandalism, leaving thousands of commuters stranded.

Areas such as Khayelitsha and Bishop Lavis have been affected.

Regional manager Richard Walker says they are engaging with police management on how to deal with increasing attacks on metrorail infrastructure.

A R25 000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.
