Metrorail in the Western Cape says it is in talks with police over strategies to improve safety for commuters and staff on its Khayelitsha-Kapteinsklip-Bishop Lavis line.
This follows the fatal shooting of a Metrorail security guard at Chris Hani station, in Khayelitsha on Tuesday night.
Services on the line have been suspended until further notice.
Metrorail’s Regional Manager Richard Bosman says they are working on a plan to re-instate services.
“We have been in discussion with senior police members including the provincial police commissioner and we’ve been working on a plan with police to put additional measures in place to re-instate services once those measures are in place and we will now be engaging staff on those measures that we will be implementing to see if we can as soon as possible introduce services,” says Bosman.
